Phoenix Old Boys

This T20 madness all started back in 2015 when five players arrived from the leafy Buckinghamshire parish of The Farnhams in La Manga. We joined forces with Madrid CC and played as a 2nd Madrid team called FC Captains XI. The Madrid Captain Stephen Baker being a former Farnham Common player and resident led the team brilliantly as we eased into our first year at La Manga.

The current squad has been carefully developed since those early days and is made up from two different cricket clubs - Farnham Common CC & Phoenix Old Boys CC. The squad also boasts two friends from Madrid CC who've stayed with us since their debuts in 2015. Over the last 20 years the players have represented both Farnham Common and Phoenix back home in Bucks.

So in 2018 we have decided to change our name again, this time to Phoenix Old Boys CC to recognise the contribution this club has given to the tournament. We'd also like to thank our sponsors MYCO Print, Office X Ltd, Rush & Datek Group for providing our teamwear in 2018.

The 2016 tournament was a great success, we finished 3rd after an epic play-off match with Madrid, following a tough semi-final against our friends from Phoenix CC. They deservedly made it through to the Final that year. However, the champagne moment of the tournament arrived when Treasurer of Madrid CC Ian Shackleton survived an over from Farnham Commons "guest" player Guillaume Shackleton, scoring a sumptuous four in the process. The two teams embodied the spirit of cricket as they played out a very enjoyable 3rd place play-off match, with the cafe doing a roaring trade throughout!

2017 faired a little better for the team from the Farnhams, a masterclass in bowling & fielding restricted our brothers from Alliance (who will be sorely missed this year) to a lowish total in the Final. A big team effort and another superlative knock from "Atlas" led the team to victory. Atlas finished with a staggering average of 201!

The round robin format in 2017 plus two rounds of golf earlier in the week left the team on it's last legs, so we were grateful to the "Madrid Cafe" and "The Last Drop" who consistently ensured the team were in peak condition for every game last year.

In 2018 we're looking forward to defending the title of this wonderful tournament and would just like to finish with thanking Jonathan Woodward and the team at Madrid CC, La Manga Resort and most importanly the officials for making this all happen.

Good Boooyyyssss!
